Talking With Clients About STDs

This workshop will provide program staff an update on transmission, disease progression, treatment and prevention of common sexually transmitted diseases.

Participants will learn how to use this information effectively with clients to help them identify their risks for contracting an STD and create a realistic client risk reduction plan.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for family planning clinic and program staff, including: Nurses Practitioners, Medical Assistants, Nurses(LVNs, RNs),Health Educators,Community Health Workers,Other interested program staff.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify the most common STDs;
• Describe transmission, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the most common STDs;
• List at least 3 objectives of an STD/HIV risk reduction plan;
• Conduct an STD/HIV risk reduction counseling session in the context of a family planning clinic visit as recommended by Federal Title X Program Guidelines and State Family PACT Guidelines.

Continuing Education

Nurses:

Provider approved by California Board of Registered Nursing. Provider #CEP 12241, for 6.5 contact hours.

Health Educators:

The California Family Health Council, Inc. is designated as a provider of Category 1 continuing education contact hours in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Health educators attending this program may report up to 4 contact hours.

There is an additional $15 administration fee per certificate, payable on site.
