The program is designed as a seven-hour module based training for a small group – typically 30-40 participants. The training can be tailored to meet your agency’s or organization’s needs.

- The roles adults play in preventing unintended teen pregnancy
- Key milestones in adolescent psycho-social and sexual development
- From risk to resiliency – incorporating youth development when working with teens
- Effective strategies for talking with teens
- Viewing contraceptive options through the eyes’ of teens
- Understanding sexually transmitted diseases
- Defining abstinence for yourself and discussing it with teens

Learning Objectives
- Discuss national and state statistics, possible causes and solutions related to teen pregnancy
- Describe the characteristics of a sexually-healthy adolescent and identify specific concerns that adolescents may have at various developmental stages
- Discuss risk-taking norms, resiliency and the importance of youth development programs
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and active listening techniques that will increase comfort when answering difficult questions that teens may ask
- Define abstinence and practice talking with teens about abstinence as a contraceptive option
- Describe why contraceptive options may or may not be effective for teens
- List the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for teens and describe when to refer a teen for health services
